Sabancı University Advisory System

The aim of the Advisory System is to help students adjust to and benefit from social and academic life at SU. There are different types of advisors to assist our students with their varying needs during university life.

Every incoming student is assigned to a student mentor in their first semester. From life at the dorms to social life on campus, these mentors who are carefully chosen from upper classes are helping incoming student to easily adapt to the University.

Each student is also assigned a CIAD counselor, a guiding expert, until they declare their majors. CIAD counselors help them

  • (i) in adapting to the university and university life (how to cope with challenges that arise from switching from a high school mentality to university learning environment);
  • (ii) making critical decisions (how to make a good decision when facing several alternatives);
  • (iii) developing necessary skills for a successful academic life (how to manage time, procrastination etc.);
  • (iv) following students’ success and communicating with academic advisors when the necessity arises.

During their first years, students are also supported by Diploma Area Advisors, who are chosen by each faculty to inform students about specific disciplines and areas, career opportunities in those areas, and necessary requirements and skills in their programs (the current list of Diploma Area Advisors is provided on the webpages of relevant program).

After students declare their majors, they are assigned to a full-time faculty member (unless they are in their first year at SU) from the program they have chosen who will serve as the student’s Academic Advisor. These academic advisors assist students in developing meaningful educational goals that are consistent with their personal interests, values and abilities.
