Expectations from Academic Advisors are:

  • > To clarify program requirements, policies and procedures;
  • > To provide academic assistance and individualized attention to promote each student's success by sharing their knowledge, experience and insight that help students;
  • > To help students to evaluate and realize educational and career options by providing educational guidance and assistance to students by recommending courses and schedules, and appropriate academic solutions;
  • > To inform students about the extensive network of academic support services available on campus.

When performing academic advising, faculty members are guided by an advisory portal access, which is described HERE. Through this portal, academic advisors can reach a student’s course schedule for the current semester, grade report for the previous semester, and transcript.

To assess a student’s performance and future progress towards graduation, the portal directs the academic advisor to the degree evaluation form and courses that the student has repeated. It is essential to check these documents for thorough advising. While using this portal one can reach required regulations and procedures, if necessary one can always check the Student Resources website.

University academic advisors are important role models in guiding students in their search for help. Since they are in close contact with students, they have the opportunity both to observe students closely and be easily reachable when students need assistance. You can also find some clues that may help you to recognize when students are encountering emotional difficulties on the Communication Guide page. In such cases, you may contact CIAD (bagem@sabanciuniv.edu).
